So many talented young people at Huntingdon Dance Studio!

We have so many talented young people in our GDA family; past and present. Graduate, Katie, is certainly no exception!

Katie started dancing when she was just 4 years old. Starting in Ballet, Modern, and Tap classes until the age of 7. It was then that Katie decided to take a break from dancing. Luckily, we have a variety of programmes about dance online and on TV nowadays because it was watching dances on YouTube and Dance Moms on TV that inspired Katie to start dancing again.

It was at 10 years old when Katie joined our GDA family.

“I love to dance as it is a great way to let go and let out all your feelings through movement”

Katie trained almost every day at GDA ever since and is now training at Addict Dance Academy studying an extended 2-year Level 3 BTEC diploma in Performing Arts.

She also trained every other Sunday in the Urdang Academy Jazz Associate Programme in 2018/2019. Katie is showing us all that experience in different genres of dance can really help you in the future!

“This has allowed me to show people what we do and why we do it”

Katie always enjoyed performing at several community events and school fetes with GDA, representing our school in the best way. She successfully auditioned to perform in a pantomime of the Wizard of Oz, and we are so proud of Katie for landing a place in a top college, now in her second year! They have taken her to many theatre shows and is being taught by an incredible faculty who have been or are currently in the performing arts industry.

“I have many dance memories, however, some of the best have been competing with GDA and being awarded an experience day at MEPA college

Katie has also made an amazing memory by taking part in a recent dance show with her college, Addict. It has shown her how far she has come since starting last September. What a great way to end the year.

What does the future hold for Katie?

Well, she has aspirations of joining Butlins as a performer for a few years once her BTEC has finished. Katie loves their performances and would love to be part of their team.

After that, Katie wants to travel the world performing on cruise ships. What an amazing dream to have seeing the world whilst doing what you love most!

“After my performance career is over, I want to go into teaching so I can hand over everything I know to students to help them reach their dream!

Katie, your ambition and determination is so inspiring and we have no doubt in our minds that you will achieve everything you dream to be. As soon as you are on those cruise ships we will be the first ones to book a holiday to see you!

Katie has an important and helpful piece of advice for all younger students:

“Never give up! Believe in yourself and your abilities because with that mindset you will be able to achieve your dreams. It's not all about talent. It's about your work ethic and working hard will get you far in helping you to reach your dreams. Don’t give up and you will reach your goals”

Very wise words, Katie!
